Our Story

how moving to Savannah, GA would lead me down a path of starting my own jewelry business

Deep on the southern coast lies a sleepy little town, Savannah GA. I moved to Savannah in 2010 to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design. Shortly after my move, I began the search for a job. I found myself on the cobblestone streets of Savannah’s River Street. There was an eclectic little art store, unlike the rest. I bugged the owner for some time before she finally gave in. The Arts and Crafts Emporium was owned by Cynthia, and I would come to work here for the remainder of my six years spent in Georgia.

While working at the gallery I met a local jeweler, Jessica. She came to me in search of a part time employee for her new store, Epiphany Bead and Jewelry Studio. I knew nothing about beads or jewelry making. We ended up becoming great friends, and she taught me everything I know about jewelry design.

Shortly after I began working for Jessica, I started my own jewelry business, River Street Rocks. I had just begun, and mostly produced wire wraps. Over time, my style and focus changed, and I became Jewelry By Julia Porter.

In 2018, work brought my husband and me back home to Greenville, SC where we currently reside. I started participating in local shows frequently, and making jewelry full time. We welcomed our first son in the summer of 2019. I took a break for a year, and am finally back to making jewelry. I can’t wait to share with you all, and continue to push the limits of my comfort zone with new designs.

Savannah is where I grew up, it’s where I fell in love, and made the best of friends. It helped shape me into who I am today, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to call her home for those years.

My goal is to create a quality product that you will feel as proud of wearing, as I do making. I strive to use the best quality beads and findings I can, while still being inclusive to all people. I hope you feel at home here, and I hope you love my jewelry.
